Jets coach Todd Bowles led the Dolphins as interim coach in 2011.

Here are some things New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said in a call with Miami Dolphins media Tuesday:

• Matt Moore was a heck of a competitor when Bowles was the coach and Moore was the quarterback in 2011. He did a heck of a job. He threw the ball well down the field. He was a good leader. He competed his butt off. Highly intelligent.

• The 2011 season wasn’t great because the team wasn’t winning much. But the last four games the guys hung in there and played hard. It was a great experience for him. Moore was one of the players who played hard.

• To win, you need a quarterback that doesn’t turn the ball over and makes a few plays. Some teams have a defense so good that you can rise above a quarterback that doesn’t do that. The quarterback doesn’t have to be great, he just has to play great. He can play mistake-free football.

• The Dolphins are fortunate to have an experienced backup quarterback. He will knock the rust off. He made some throws last week that won the game. You prepare for the team, not just one guy.

• Every few years, there is a stable of good young running backs that push the older guys out. No surprises. Everybody knows they can play.

• There is no best way to lead in times of adversity. Each person must be themselves. You know what you know. Adversity doesn’t make you what you are, it shows you who you are. It doesn’t make you what you are. You’ve got to keep persevering. If you change when you’re losing and you’re a different way when you’re winning, then you’re not the same guy, that shows weakness. And it doesn’t show the team and the person the same guy. And you’re in the boat with those guys. And you have to find a way to get them better.

• There are a lot of games that go into the fourth quarter and you just have to make the plays. Any play may change the tide. You may have some years when you’re up and some when you’re not. And you just have to try to make those plays.

• Cameron Wake is a hard worker. A premier pass rusher. Such a low center of gravity and so explosive. People don’t realize how strong he is because he’s built like a Greek God. You have to know where he is at all times. He takes care of his body and plays at a high level. He’s an exception to the rule.
