DAVIE–The Dolphins are fortunate they got cornerback Xavien Howard back last week and they’ll probably need him to start Saturday at Buffalo.
No. 1 corner Byron Maxwell exited the Jets game with an ankle injury and hasn’t practiced since. He was not involved in today’s practice/walk-through during the portion open to the media, making it highly unlikely he will play against the Bills.
His absence is a tough one for the Dolphins, but they’ve been pleased with Tony Lippett and have always thought highly of Howard. Maxwell, though, is rated the 12th-best cornerback in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.
Linebacker Jelani Jenkins (knee) was with his position group, but did not participate and wasn’t wearing a helmet. That would indicate a low chance of him playing, but the Dolphins are keeping him up to date in case that changes.
Everyone else, other than those ruled out long-term, was active. Kraig Urbik continues to take first-string reps at center, so he will probably stay in that spot over Anthony Steen.
