Here is some of what Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Thursday:

• I would hope for better numbers, but obviously that’s not the case. Takeaways, sacks, red zone are key. The yardage stats can tell you a lot of things. We played 94 snaps. But winning is the most important thing.

• Third down, takeaways and sacks have been good.

• Sigh of relief that there are no mobile quarterbacks left on the schedule. It was a major issue.

• Losing Isa Abdul-Quddus, “we’re kind of used to losing players.” But he’s been a great leader. Has made the calls for the team the last two months. But Michael Thomas is a smart player and veteran player. Thomas played his best game of the year against the Bills.

• Thomas made impact tackles in a pressure game. We need Thomas to play well. Bacarri Rambo will play more in base, obviously.

• You fix the tight end coverage issue by varying and mixing up coverages.

• It’s frustrating for the defensive line when the ball is out so fast.

• We’ve got some young guys in the secondary as backups. When you lose starters and have young backups it’s a concern, but next guy up.

• Byron Maxwell is probably not going to play. Same with Jelani Jenkins. Hopefully they’re ready for the playoffs.

• Neville Hewitt has had a “great season.” He’s playing at a high level. He’s playing really well. He is a young player who can run. Most growth has been in the mental part.

• Mario Williams still isn’t healthy, so playing time remains the same.

• On the 53-yard completion to Sammy Watkins last week, safety Bacarri Rambo actually saved Xavien Howard in coverage. So Rambo was right. Howard was wrong.
