DAVIE–Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster.
Ajayi initially missed out after finishing behind Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell, Tennessee’s DeMarco Murray, Titans and Buffalo’s LeSean McCoy, but was named as the first alternate. McCoy withdrew from the game, opening a spot for Ajayi.
He joins fellow teammates Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Jarvis Landry.
The Pro Bowl selection is an incredible achievement for Ajayi, who never got more than nine carries in a game as a rookie and began this season as a backup. He rallied from that to produce three 200-yard games and put up the third-biggest rushing total in franchise history at 1,272 yards. He averaged 4.9 per carry and scored eight touchdowns.
“You want to be in the Pro Bowl,” Ajayi said when the voting was done in December. “First alternate, I guess, if someone doesn’t go, then you’ll get to go. So I’ll be grateful for that; but you just want to keep putting in work so that you end up being in, no matter what, automatically.”
