The Dolphins are adding former Pro Bowl pass rusher Andre Carter to their staff as an assistant defensive line coach, an NFL source confirmed Monday.
Carter, 37, who had 80 1/2 career sacks, was the seventh overall choice of the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. He spent five years with the 49ers and five in Washington before finishing his career with New England and Oakland. He made the Pro Bowl in 2011 while with the Patriots.
Carter is the son of former University of Miami standout nose tackle Rubin Carter, formerly of the Denver Broncos.
ESPN first reported that Carter would join coach Adam Gase’s staff as an assistant to line coach Terrell Williams. They will lead a line that features Pro Bowl selections Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake, although the defense as a whole ranked 29th in total yards, 30th against the run, 18th in points allowed and tied for 19th in sacks.
