Miami Dolphins Hall of Famer Jason Taylor expresses love for … Rex Ryan?

A lifetime or two ago, Jason Taylor and Rex Ryan might have had a field day during Dolphins-Jets week, with Taylor talking about how much he hates the Jets and Ryan finding every which way to poke the Dolphins.

Today? A lovefest.

Taylor said when he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last month, he received “probably 13 or 14 hundred texts that I had to answer.” Replying took several days and probably strained a few fingers.

Among the standouts congratulating Taylor was Ryan, who coached Taylor in his one season with the Jets in 2010, when they went to the AFC Championship Game.

“We had a good talk and some laughs,” Taylor said. “He obviously wants to get to the Hall for the induction. He has two players going in, myself and L.T.”

That adds up to J.T. and L.T. (LaDainian Tomlinson).

“He was a great guy to play for,” Taylor said of Ryan. “He’s obviously not for everybody. He’s obviously a different style. Some people don’t love him, but trust me, if you work for him, if he’s your coach or your coach in the organization, you love him.”

Congratulations also rolled in from Cameron Wake, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Robert Mathis, Nick Saban, Jimmy Johnson and Dave Wannstedt.

“It’s people you bleed and break bones with,” Taylor said. “That really means a lot to me.”
