The Miami Dolphins have given defensive back Michael Thomas a one-year tender offer.
Thomas would receive a raise to approximately $1.8 million from $675,000 if he signs the deal as a restricted free agent.
Thomas could shop his services with any other club through April 21 and the Dolphins would retain a right to match.
Thomas has versatility as a nickel cornerback and safety. And perhaps most importantly, he is a team leader and a special teams captain.
Thomas, 27, even merited consideration as a Pro Bowl special teams selection. Thomas began his career as an undrafted free agent from Stanford and has made a considerable impact with involvement in the South Florida community.
The Dolphins need to make a decision on restricted free agent running back Damien Williams, who also seems likely to receive a tender offer, by Thursday at 4 p.m.
