Miami Dolphins DL William Hayes believes in mermaids, not dinosaurs

Newly-acquired Miami Dolphins defensive end Williams Hayes has 34.5 career sacks.

The Miami Dolphins swapped late-round picks with the Los Angeles Rams to acquire William Hayes, a defensive lineman who they believe can enter the rotation and be effective against the run.

They also seem to have acquired quite a character.

In memorable episodes of HBO’s Hard Knocks, Hayes explained how he believes in mermaids, but not dinosaurs.

“Dinosaurs never really existed,” Hayes said. “That’s not true. I don’t believe in dinosaurs. I just can’t fathom a T-Rex walking around here. Dinosaurs never walked this earth. All this fairy-tale stuff, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, is something I’m not going to teach my kids about.”

Yet, former Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Hayes wanted to move to Los Angeles, in part, to be closer to mermaids.

“Will Hayes absolutely believes and is totally convinced that there are mermaids,” Fisher said.

Said Hayes: “You find different species in the water, every single day.”

Hayes actually appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the dinosaur controversy.
