Linebacker Zach Brown signed with the Washington Redskins on Monday, according to agent Michael Katz.

Brown had visited the Dolphins but it was clear Miami was not going to go outside its allotted budget for Brown.

Brown, 6-feet-1, 244 pounds, had 149 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 forced fumbles for the Buffalo Bills last season.

Miami’s biggest free-agency splash to date has been the addition of middle linebacker Lawrence Timmons of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The addition will allow Miami to move Kiko Alonso, who agreed to a long-term extension, to outside linebacker.

Miami has veteran Koa Misi and ascending youngster Neville Hewitt to compete for one outside linebacker position. And the Dolphins could always draft a linebacker in the early rounds at the end of the month.

Brown, 27, was originally a second-round draft choice of the Tennessee Titans in 2012. Brown played at North Carolina.
