Throughout Aaron Hernandez’ downfall, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey stuck with him. They formed a bond while playing together at the University of Florida from 2007 through ’09, and Pouncey was crushed by the news that Hernandez apparently committed suicide in prison today.

Pouncey posted his reaction on Instagram, calling Hernandez a friend and a “brother” with a photo of him smiling while playing for the Patriots. It appears they spoke just prior to Hernandez’ death.

“Through thick and thin right or wrong we never left each other’s side. Today my heart hurts as I got the worse news I could have imagined. It was just a day ago we shared our last convo. I will forever miss you and love you bro. we will meet again rest easy!” Pouncey wrote.
