DAVIE–The Dolphins‘ first training camp cut came today, when they waived linebacker Lamin Barrow and replaced his roster spot with wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp.
Westerkamp, 23, went undrafted out of Nebraska this year after a strong career at Nebraska. He is 6-foot, 200 pounds and ran a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash when he worked out in April. A torn meniscus was one of the reasons he went undrafted.
In four seasons with the Cornhuskers, he totaled 167 catches, 2,474 yards and 18 touchdown receptions. He was third-team all-Big Ten as a senior.
second on Nebraska’s career receptions list, did not work out even though he said earlier this month that he was “completely healed” from a meniscus tear surgery and another knee issue. He was injured in practice and missed Nebraska’s bowl game in December and the East-West Shrine game in January. UPDATE: Westerkamp worked out for teams on April 6. He ran two 4.73-second 40s, and had a 30-5-inch vertical, a 9-1 broad jump, a 4.32-second short shuttle, a 7.25-second three-cone, and added 12 bench lifts.
Barrow had been with the team since signing on as a practice squad player in December. He was not at today’s practice.
