MIAMI GARDENS–Whether it lasts a few days or all season, the Matt Moore era is underway for the Dolphins.
Moore has taken over as the starting quarterback with Ryan Tannehill out indefinitely, though that could be a brief run if Miami brings in a free agent quarterback. For now, Moore is running the first-string offense in this morning’s scrimmage.
That got off to a very rough start. Moore threw a pick-six on his first pass of the scrimmage. Xavien Howard intercepted a ball intended for DeVante Parker. He got things rolling more smoothly on the second possession, which ended with a touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry.
Here are some other updates:
— Tannehill (knee), running back Jay Ajayi (concussion), linebacker Neville Hewitt (unspecified), guard Ted Larsen (biceps) and Mike Pouncey (hip) are out with injuries.
— A few more of the team’s best players aren’t participating in the scrimmage. The Dolphins are holding out receiver Kenny Stills and right tackle Ja’Wuan James. Stills missed part of Friday’s practice, but it’s unknown whether he’s injured.
— Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is not on the field and is believed to be absent. Miami coach Adam Gase will address that after the scrimmage.
— Cameron Wake is practicing and will head to Jason Taylor’s Hall of Fame ceremony afterward. He and Ndamukong Suh called it a day early in the scrimmage.
