Miami Dolphins practice report: TE Julius Thomas out with back injury

DAVIE–It’s been a slow start for Julius Thomas with the Dolphins.

Thomas hasn’t had a ton of catches in training camp, though Adam Gase dismissed that as incidental, and now he joins an already long injury list. He’s out today with a back injury.

That’s concerning given that back trouble ruined last season for him.

Here are some other updates from training camp:

–Jay Cutler has been taking first-string reps with Mike Pouncey at center. While Pouncey is almost certainly sitting out Thursday against Baltimore, there’s no reason Cutler wouldn’t be ready to go.

–The offensive line shuffle continues. The latest injury is Kraig Urbik’s back, which is keeping him out today. That said, Ja’Wuan James returned from his injury today for some limited work and Pouncey is coming along. Laremy Tunsil is rolling again as well. That means Thursday’s starting offensive line will likely only be missing Pouncey and left guard Ted Larsen.

–Reserve defensive back and special teams mainstay Walt Aikens is out today.

–Leonte Carroo, who’s been having a strong camp, is out with a hamstring injury today.

–Mike Hull is still holding down the middle linebacker spot.
