The Miami Dolphins let punter Matt Darr know he is being released, presumably proclaiming rookie Matt Haack as the winner of a camp-long competition.
Darr was Miami’s punter for two seasons.
In 2016, Darr placed 32 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line and ranked fifth in the NFL with
3,991 gross punting yards and 3,591 net yards.
In 2015, Darr placed 30 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line and was third in the NFL with 4,380 punting yards and a gross average of 47.6 yards per punt.
The Dolphins really liked Haack, a left-footer with a big leg, who will cost less this season and would also cost less in 2018 when Darr would be a free-agent.
In the preseason, Haack averaged 46.9 yards per punt (44.3 net average) with 2 punts inside the 20.
In the preseason, Darr averaged 44.3 yards per punt (35.3 net average) with 5 punts inside the 20.
Haack (pronounced “Hawk”) is an undrafted rookie out of Arizona State.
