DAVIE–It’s a hectic day for the Miami Dolphins. Not only are they getting into their first practice for the season opener against Tampa Bay, but they’ve got a list of roster moves to smooth out and they’re watching the projected path of Hurricane Irma.
With all of that going on, here’s what coach Adam Gase said this morning:
— Linebacker Rey Maualuga is practicing today, but no decision has been made regarding his playing status for Sunday.
— The Dolphins have not picked a starting cornerback out of Byron Maxwell and Alterraun Verner. They also haven’t decided between Jordan Phillips and Davon Godchaux at defensive tackle.
— Anthony Steen will start at left guard over Jesse Davis.
— There’s minimal conversation among the coaching staff about playing the game on a different date or at a different location because of the hurricane threat. Gase says they’ll play whenever and wherever they’re told.
— Jay Cutler, now four weeks into his time with the Dolphins, is fully ready and completely back to game shape.
— Regarding the team’s move to cut kicker Andrew Franks and sign Cody Parkey, Gase said it was simply a matter of evaluating Parkey to be the better of the two.
