Adam Gase: Benching Jay Cutler not a consideration

LONDON — Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase was asked after Sunday’s shutout loss to New Orleans if the club needs to make a change at quarterback.

“No, no,” Gase said.

The reporter followed up by noting Miami has scored only six points in the last two games.

“No,”  Gase said. “Everybody wants to point at the quarterback all the time. I heard that when I got here, and Ryan’s not here to blame this time.”

Ryan is Tannehill of course, who was in attendance for this one, just as he was last week when Miami was nearly shut out.

The reference to Tannehill was humorous. Gase realizes, of course, that Tannehill was the subject of mass criticism in the Miami fan base, even though he finished 12th in the NFL in passer rating last season.

After the game, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey said it was not fair to blame Cutler.

Cutler, who had planned to retire before Tannehill’s season-ending injury resulted in a reach-out from Gase, had a passer rating of 71.1 in the game.

On the season, Cutler is completing 66.7 percent of passes with 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 9 sacks and a passer rating of 80.4.

Backup Matt Moore’s career passer rating is 82.0.
