Ex-Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi has 77 yards, long TD as Eagles romp (with video)

Jay Ajayi appears to be quite content following his long touchdown run against the Broncos.

MIAMI GARDENS — If the Dolphins thought they were going to get second-guessed for unloading Jay Ajayi last week, they’re absolutely right.

Ajayi was supposed to play a “limited role” today given that he has been with the Philadelphia Eagles five days, but instead the Jay Train had a starring role as the Eagles slapped around the Denver Broncos and former Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph 51-23.

Ajayi — acquired for just a fourth-round draft choice — scored on a 46-yard run as Phily took a 31-9 halftime lead, sending Eagles fans into a frenzy. Ajayi finished with eight carries for 77 yards, a 9.6 average.

Former Dolphins teammates Jarvis Landry and Ja’Wuan James immediately tweeted congratulations to Ajayi following his TD.

Although it won’t show up on the stat sheet, Ajayi also played a critical role in Philly’s first TD. Quarterback Carson Wentz ran play-action with Ajayi, sucking in the defense for an easy 32-yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery.

Ajayi failed to rush for 77 yards in four of seven appearances for the Dolphins this year.

Ajayi’s smashing debut is certain to put heat on Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake, running backs the Dolphins hope will pick up the slack in Ajayi’s absence. The Williams-Drake combination will receive its first test on Sunday Night Football against the Oakland Raiders tonight.
