Adam Gase might be adding another coach from his past to the Dolphins’ coaching staff.
The Dolphins have fired running backs coach Danny Barrett and are talking with former Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville, who was recently fired, a league source confirmed.
Barrett is a native of Boynton Beach who attended Lake Worth High.
Studesville, 50, overlapped with Gase in Denver.
Although Studesville was said to be visiting the Dolphins in South Florida on Thursday, his hiring may not be a certainty. Studesville also interviewed with the Giants for their head coaching position, the sixth man to do so but the only candidate who wasn’t a coordinator in 2017.
Studesville is a former Giants assistant coach.
If Studesville and the Dolphins come to terms, he would join offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains as additions who had ties to Gase.
Studesville has 21 years of NFL experience as an assistant, primarily coaching running backs. He also was a Broncos interim coach in 2010.
Barrett just finished his second season with the Dolphins. A year ago, he helped Jay Ajayi rush for 1,272 yards and win team MVP honors. The Dolphins traded Ajayi to the Eagles this season and finished 29th in the NFL in rushing.
