What Ryan Tannehill said in first comments in nearly 10 months

DAVIE — Ryan Tannehill is moving as well, according to coach Adam Gase and according to what we saw with our eyes at an open practice today. Here are some highlights from Tannehill in his first comments since a season-ending injury:

• “Back from the dead,” Tannehill proclaimed as he entered the room.

• It feels amazing to be back out there. A lot of hard work. A lot of time and effort. It’s been a lot of work to put a helmet back on and get back. I can remember sitting in the cafeteria and looking through the glass like a little kid that’s not allowed to go outside and play.

• I got a lot of mental reps last season. Nothing can compare to physical reps. But it’s not like I wasn’t along for the ride.

• Tannehill said he will wear a brace during the season. It’s to prevent that train wreck of an injury.

• How things ended up, you wonder did you miss something? I had multiple opinions and everyone’s opinion lined up on the plan of action. Going back, I’d do it the same way. I wish a different doctor maybe had given me a different opinion. The knee was stable.

• There were some dark times. I miss the games. I miss the grind.

• I felt it shift that day. I knew it wasn’t good. You don’t really know. But I knew it wasn’t good. I wasn’t really processing it. I just knew it was bad. I went into a shock a little bit.

• Last week he went to Dallas and got cleared completely.

• At this point, it’s let it rip. The knee has been tested to the ninth degree. When I’m out on the field it’s just playing football.

• I got stepped on today. I had Danny Amendola. I had to move in the pocket. It’s just playing.

• I feel really good.

• The ACL just wasn’t the same after the first injury. Two separate events. But definitely connected. One chain of events.

• Losing Jarvis Landry is tough. He loves competing and winning. But we’ve brought in veteran guys that can really help us.

• Adam Gase told me you are the starting quarterback. I wasn’t worried about the draft. It never changed my course of action or feeling of security. Whether they drafted one or not.

• I don’t think we had a bad culture. But these guys are definitely bought in.

• I’m never eager to get hit. I don’t look forward to getting hit. But I don’t think of it differently than any other season.
